Purpose

The Austin Asian American Chamber of Commerce has provided information on the AAACC Website entailing demographic information concerning the Asian population. In doing so, this information has been made readily available to interested parties relocating or doing business within the City of Austin.

Sources

Information gathered has been largely based on the1990 and 2000 US Census data sets for the City of Austin.

Both reports were used in order to illustrate the City of Austin’s growing Asian population.

A map produced by the City Demographer, Department of Planning, City of Austin, on October 2001 has also be provided. The map incorporates changes concerning the Asian demographics within the City of Austin.

The chart information provided shows that the City of Austin’s Asian population as a percentage surpasses overall percentages for The State of Texas as well as The United States of America at large. According to the US Census Data, the Asian population in Austin makes up 4.7% of the city’s overall population. This is 0.3% higher than the overall US percentage and 2.0% higher than overall Texas percentage.
